We are blessed to learn our language from, hear the stories of, and visit each week with li vyeu Jeanne. We call her Nookoom. Noohkoom likes us to illustrate her stories to keep & read when she can't be with us. Fun Fact: Noohkoom Jeanne is a published author with Gabriel Dumont Institute!
Our Oktobr Faamii Day included Seesaw Activities for families to work on together at home for Language Practice. They baked their laa gaalet, watched the video with Rodger W. Ross and practiced the Michif words from Noohkoom together. @SacredHeartRCSD #RCSDConnect Métis Nation–SK
For the month of Noovaambr we worked on a special project, we illustrated our very own book! We wanted to tell the story of #LouisRiel ‘s life in a way kids our age would understand! #hero #aenbraav We made copies for our families to pass down, & a PDF to share. Métis Nation–SK
Each day we learned more about the Métis leader’s life and legacy, new words in Michif to describe our learning & then illustrated our stories. #LouisRielDay #aenbraav Métis Nation–SK
Finally, we teamed up(virtually)with @Carignan_Crew! They practiced the tradition of oral storytelling & put together this video of our book's script! Check out their video, & see if you can spot Li zennfaan saa nik di laang! YQR Catholic Schools Métis Nation–SK safeshare.tv/x/UCcT85yWN5Y

enn trenn! To welcome the winter months we have been discovering traditional modes of transportation Métis people & our Indigenous relations used to transport goods & mind the traplines. We especially loved watching Garrick Schmidt ‘s videos! 🐕 🛷 ❄️ YQR Catholic Schools Métis Nation–SK
Disaambr came and we spent time listening to the stories of our people. We loved Leah Dorion’s Li Michif li zhoor di Nowel li mitten. So much so that we began a very special project with our learning. No two mittens were alike! YQR Catholic Schools Gabriel Dumont Institute @SacredHeartRCSD
We created mitten doorhangers based on Leah Dorion's book. We recycled materials, practiced new skills, & prayed to Creator while we worked. We wanted our love to be obvious in our work as they were going to our loved ones, the residents of Gabriel Manor. YQR Catholic Schools Gabriel Dumont Institute
