This is one of the most important speeches given by a US politician in my lifetime. Thank you Zohran Kwame Mamdani for standing up to the bigots, calling out the Islamophobes, and your pride in your faith at a time when Republicans & (some) Democrats have embraced anti-Muslim bigotry.

The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker. And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows. No more.

To be a Muslim and win as Mayor of New York City you basically have to be the single most gifted politician of this generation.

This is exactly what is needed. To stop. Take a step back. Break the flow of the news cycle and speak the truth: that Islamophobia is socially accepted in the West. That these people are racist. And deserve to be treated as such. That this racism needs to end. Now.
