In defense of basic science - my new video about how we balance basic vs. translational science: youtu.be/yl6ETxRfQn8?si…. . And why we should encourage a culture of wandering to solve problems:. A team effort between University of Oxford and OxfordSparks.

It turns out...Komodo dragons have iron-coated teeth! nature.com/articles/s4155… Their serrations and tips pop into the mouth with an orange hue. Using different techniques, we show that these iconic lizards have special iron-rich coatings on each tooth, keeping them razor sharp!

I am very happy to announce the publication of my main PhD project in Nature Communications . Our study demonstrates that Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a crucial role in promoting cardiac repair following myocardial infarction (heart attack) by adopting an injury-specific phenotype.

Excited to see this study led by D'Juan Farmer finally come out after 1.5 years of revisions. My favorite part of the paper is the grem1a:nlsEOS line he made that beautifully lights up the sutures just as they are starting to form. D'Juan Farmer nature.com/articles/s4146…

My favorate piece of my postdoc work is published! We fused our favorite TFs with a deaminase domain that induces point mutations in DNA, mutagenizing TF binding sites across the genome. Will be a great reagent for exp. evo., as its name suggests :) academic.oup.com/mbe/article/41…

Happy to share that our preprint on using chimeric eCLIP to map snoRNA interactions (and find new non-canonical snoRNA:RBP subnetworks) is now up! A fun collaboration with the great Amanda Whipple lab, and great work by Joey, Min, and others! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

A 1,000,000th reminder the crucial importance of basic research. Ambros and Ruvkun were looking into understanding nematode genetics and development, not looking for a drug, and ended up opening an entire new area in biology

The life of each one of us began when a sperm and an egg came together. But what actually happens at a molecular level? Our latest work @PauliGroup Cell Press reveals a conserved fertilization complex that bridges sperm and egg in vertebrates! (1/8) cell.com/cell/fulltext/…

The ability of the animal body to self-assemble based on information encoded in our genomes is one of the most remarkable miracles of the living world. We now take for granted the idea that shared cellular machinery mediates this & read textbooks laying outmolecular details 1/n

3/4 We also observed striking reprogramming of neural crest cells to a mesoderm-like state, resulting in ectopic fins throughout the body. EWSR1::FLI1 hijacked the developmental program that included activation of HOX genes and FGFR signaling cascades during the formation of
