This is a quite extraordinary attack by Labour in the Sun. Wee thread below.

The article singles out 5 of Scotgov's "pottiest talking shops". Let's look at them one by one.

1. A strategy for Space in Scotland launched in 2021. Space Scotland is a partnership organisation and the space sector is now actually a growth area in our economy. The importance of Scotland's space sector is recognised by UK gov.

2. Ascribing Sentience to Fish. This is not a strategy. It is a report by the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission. I struggle to see what is potty about it. We recognise that eg cattle or chickens are sentient beings. That's why there are laws about their treatment.

3. Marine Litter Strategy. Marine litter is a major global problem caused by humans effectively flytipping into the sea. UK gov, NI gov and Welsh gov also have strategies to reduce marine litter. It would be weird if they didn't.

4. International Development Strategy. I don't know what exactly is supposed to be potty about this, whether it is having a strategy or the principles - such as gender equality - which inform it. Perhaps Labour could explain.

5. Faith & Belief Engagement Strategy. Again, I am unsure why Labour thinks it is potty to engage with Scotland's diverse faith communities. Perhaps they could explain.

The only conclusion we can draw from this is that a Labour government in Scotland would go about its business in a completely unplanned way, with no underlying strategies to guide decisions. Not a great offer. #VoteSNP

And the SNP and Scottish Greens have opposed it since it was first floated and worked to call out the horrors this policy would cause. My MP at the time, Alison Thewliss worked tirelessly to oppose the bill and to continually make representations to ministers to abolish it.
