The inherent heterogeneity of networks (my network and your network ain't alike) makes it hard to train machine learning models that generalize well. So hard in fact that some have given up. In this upcoming HotNets'22 paper, we explore how Transformers could (hopefully) help!

Configuration synthesis is the task of automagically generating network configurations from the operators' intents. Enabling "self-writing" network configurations is hard though (big surprise!). In an upcoming #NeurIPS2022 paper, we show how neural algorithmic reasoning can help.

I said yesterday that synthesizing network configurations is "hard". But how hard exactly? Well, very: we just proved that most configuration synthesis problems are NP-hard. Interestingly, for some protocols and requirements, cfg. synthesis is tractable. 👉nsg.ee.ethz.ch/fileadmin/user…

We are *terrible* at generating randomness. Case in point. You're asked to press the "f" & "d" keys randomly. After a few presses, a simple probabilistic model is likely to predict the next key with a 60+% accuracy! Try it: people.ischool.berkeley.edu/~nick/aaronson… I thought I was better, I'm not.
