'We are still a fifth less well off than we were in 2008 is a damning indictment of the way that many governments have treated public sector workers' Dr Emma Runswick from the British Medical Association spoke to #BBCBreakfast about Friday's planned five day strike by resident

We give trusts plenty of time to plan their cover during lawful industrial action. NHS trusts who flood this safety critical process with inappropriate requests are abusing it, and are putting patients’ lives at risk. We will put patients first, even when some NHS trusts don’t.

Next time you wait 12 hours to be seen by a doctor in A&E, remember that 14 doctors applied to treat you. Doctors are unemployed, and cannot find work, whilst patients wait longer.

This is Sara who is an F2. Her concerns are around jobs and the worry that she will not have a job come August. They are worried that they will not be able to afford to live and have to move out of their home. Maybe Wes Streeting will give her an early Christmas present?

Resident doctors in England are not ‘morally reprehensible,' to be on strike today, as Wes Streeting puts it. This is about fair pay, pay that's down more than 20% since 2008. Read the response in full The Doctor Magazine 👉 thedoctor.bma.org.uk/articles/pay-c…

If we are going to maintain a decent NHS we need to pay doctors and nurses (and other staff) properly. I support the resident doctors' industrial action. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Joined by many resident doctors at St Thomas’ today. Frustration is growing amongst doctors as Wes Streeting refuses to meaningfully address dr unemployment and has suggested a real terms pay cut for 2026. The Government can end the strikes; put a credible offer on the table.

“You cannot retain talent by keeping it in the dark. And the public should resist a manufactured narrative that these strikes are about greed. They are about whether, in a decade, our children and parents will have enough doctors to care for them” 🎯 inews.co.uk/opinion/street…

I've never understood how that isn't a penalty, you can argue the ball/shot is away, but the presence of the challenge that didn't win the ball impacts the ability to get the shot away
