Moore's Law only applies to chips, nothing else. But three decades of ever-cheaper Chinese manufactured goods made it seem inevitable in other fields too.

Great thread. The fact the govt is still pretending that its dash for wind will cut bills is approaching blatant fraud at this point.

Good thread on yet another tax loophole being closed. Complexity creates these loopholes in the first place though: if you charge lower VAT or NI to “small businesses”, then the govt shouldn’t be surprised that thousands of people suddenly declare themselves to be a small biz.

Foreign driving licences weren’t an issue when immigration from India was sub-10,000 a year; but it’s a big problem given that 850,000 arrived in the Boriswave of the last four years.

Very clever. The optics are superb. The pink garb echoes the “Wear It Pink” breast cancer campaign, which has broad, cross-party support. It also signals that these people are not unreasonable, not “far right”, or any such nonsense. The Antifa and communist crowd would be unwise

The Times reports that the UK government is set to announce plans to evacuate up to 300 children from Gaza for free medical treatment on the NHS. Despite the humanitarian intent, this policy is naïve and dangerous. A 🧵 on why:

Interesting point. It’s true that nobody talented wants to spend years as local councillor, climbing the greasy pole of politics. Parties do parachute in good talent (Rishi Sunak - first elected in 2015, chancellor by 2020); but it’s rare, and it depends on someone retiring.
