Fabulous day in the field with some maintenance, manual chamber measurements and a site visit from SITES Data Retreat in Lönnstorp. Our #Kernza is still coming along great and is getting close to harvesting now The Land Institute
SITES Röbäcksdalen, Lönnstorp, and the Secretariat met up with Patrik Vestin for a tour of the eddy covariance flux towers which are a part of a project examining the climate benefits of new perennial crops based at SLU Alnarp.

Pre-harvest sampling of #Kernza has started. We will estimate aboveground biomass, leaf area and other plant traits to assess the state of Kernza after the 1st year and to relate to our EC CO2 flux measurements. A busy afternoon in the lab processing #Kernza samples for aboveground biomass, leaf area and other plant traits. Thanks to all the motivated helpers! And to Hyltemossa Research Station, Lund University ICOS Sweden for letting us use their leaf scanner. Lund University The Land Institute Formas, ett forskningsråd för hållbar utveckling. While most of the team was busy sampling biomass, Rasmus was measuring CH4 and CO2 soil fluxes with our portable chamber for his MSc project. Can you spot the LI-COR Environmental 7810 analyzer between the #Kernza?
New approach to estimate the dynamics of interannual carbon exchange suggest no clear trend in CO2 uptake in boreal forests - interesting new study with LUfluxes involvment. Skogssällskapet Lund University sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
#FarmworkThursday Today the harvest of our perennial wheat #Kernza field started. Some initial problems but good progress during the evening. Stay tuned! The Land Institute Lund University Lennart Olsson
Oh, the joy when your peat corer breaks halfway through soil sampling ☹️ As so often before, excellent Skogaryd Research Catchment staff saves the day. Thank you Per!
A young spruce forest Skogaryd Research Catchment that we've followed since clearcutting some 13 years ago. The third and fourth generation flux towers are both still on site for a while. Fruitful day with a drone flight as added bonus Skogssällskapet Lund University
#FieldworkFriday Litter sampling ongoing following harvesting of our #Kernza and straws. . The Land Institute Lennart Olsson Lund University
Visit to our agricultural field site with a group of our fresh Master students in Physical Geography. Before the rain set in, they were setting up their own EC system a few km away. Lunds universitet Formas, ett forskningsråd för hållbar utveckling.
The SITES Agroecological Field Experiment (SAFE) is open for research in agronomy, biology, economics, food systems, soil science, sustainability, and more🌱 Discover new research opportunities! Listening to Samuli Launiainen's talk: C balance of Northern European forests & disturbances at #icos2024SC. His study includes measurements from LU - Biosphere-Atmosphere Interaction Research and ICOS Sweden stations like Hyltemossa Research Station, Lund University & ICOS Norunda. Samuli Launiainen works with us in our Skogssällskapet funded project.
