I personally think this should apply to staff at R1 US colleges. We should automatically grant them permanent residency. They work challenging hours, often late at night or very early in the morning, and their work is essential; without them R1 US colleges wouldn't function.

Sad to learn today that Rainer Sachs has passed away. We co-mentored a PhD student (Dan Levy). Ray made important contributions to numerous fields ranging from physics (general relativity) to computational biology (effects of ionizing radiation). A deep thinker and kind man.
