Might anyone have a particular tool that so often saves the day? Can’t believe just how useful this is.😎 (other makes are available 😉)

A little crop walking on a gloomy December day. Mauled in Extase, early and later sown Vespa beans and early sown Kingsbarn.

1. We now have 38 years of rainfall records. A tad old school but this graph is 1986-1994, which instantly shows you that there’s no normal pattern. However it also shows that extremes are not unusual. April and September were almost consistent months.

2. Having uploaded all figures to date shows extremes throughout the 38 years. Wet Sept/Oct-Dec occurred during 2000, 02, 12, 19, 23 & 24. December was often the wettest month, however July (88,07&08)and August (97,10,14&20) were also extremely wet.

3. Conclusions? There’s no such thing as a normal pattern. Over a relatively short period of time we’ve experienced extremes, that can happen any time of the year. The rarest thing was a bone dry month, which almost happened in 1986, almost but not quite.

Perhaps AHDB could send someone hot footing over to France, ASAP. The OSR in the central and eastern parts of the country are truly stunning. How do they manage it? We in the 🇬🇧 need the answers.🤔 #ahdb

Having not grown the crop for five years we’re rolling the dice this autumn. Maverick by name not sure about nature 😉.
