Over 1,000 Pakistanis have died in the ongoing historic floods. The Senate should act to prioritize humanitarian aid--not military support--during this climate disaster.

The beauty of persistent advocacy! In August, two of our Advocacy Team members drove to their district office in Utah. Just as they were about to leave the office, Chris Stewart popped in and spoke with them for ten minutes about the war in Yemen. fcnl.org/updates/2022-0…

In the 21 years since 9/11, the United States spent $8 trillion+ on wars. Can you imagine if we had instead invested those funds in climate, health care, housing, and education?

"The earned-income credit alone reduced child poverty by 22 percent, the analysis found, compared with 5 percent a generation ago." Millions are depending on #Congress to ensure everyone who needs these #taxcredits can access them...because they work! nytimes.com/2022/09/11/us/…

Don’t forget defense sector lobby spent $98.9 million in the first three quarters of 2021. And that was before the war in Ukraine. #WarIsNotTheAnswer

“Saudi Arabia’s record on human rights is appalling. As long as it is funded by American treasure, we are partners in these atrocities. It is long past time that we hold its regime accountable for how our money is spent.” #YemenWarPowers ⁦⁦⁦ wbur.org/cognoscenti/20…

THREAD: “We are at a crossroads... I am urging the parties to choose an alternative that prioritizes the needs of the Yemeni people,” said Hans Grundberg. Congress has leverage they can use to help sustain this truce, set to expire Oct 2. Here's how: apnews.com/article/middle…

Lawmakers in Washington should start by passing the recently introduced and bipartisan #YemenWarPowersResolution to end US military support for the war. By making clear that the US won't resume military support, Congress can prevent the peace process from getting derailed.

Bottom line: #YemenCantWait! While the US can't unilaterally bring about an end to Yemen's war, it has leverage to persuade Saudi Arabia and its proxies to extend this truce past the looming Oct 2 deadline and hopefully, finally achieve a deal to end this 8-year war.

The truce in Yemen is set to expire on Oct. 2, three days from now. This fragile peace has been a life-saving reprieve for millions. Lawmakers in D.C. can help extend it by supporting the Yemen War Powers Resolution and in turn, bolstering the peace process.
