The other day, I decided to conduct an experiment. I set a timer for 3 hours and counted how many times I was publicly shamed here on twitter during that time. The answer? 12. And since then I've counted dozens of examples of others being shamed, as well. (thread)

Neoclassical economics is a hell of a drug. It has no theory of prices, no account of inflation, and its models all presume the existence of a perfectly rational "homo economicus" who is a "utility maximizer" with perfect information. 1/

Here's my article about who we are, why we're trapped, why we are heading for planetary collapse, and what we must do to prevent it. It might not be saying much, but I think this is the best thing I've written. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Two weeks ago, vaguely I wondered if anyone was doing anything interesting in philosophy on youtube, and found @PhilosophyTube. Now slightly obsessed! I'm in total admiration of the creativity, the research and the passion that goes into making it.

Slowly coming back to Twitter after the best part of a year when I found it made me anxious and overwhelmed. Have not found that over the last few days so I’m tentatively reading and even posting again.

The world's economy ground to a halt during the pandemic as millions died, production slowed or stopped altogether, and the resulting supply chain disruptions made many essential products and services impossible to deliver. 1/

Dan Savage I think it says that you guys are normal inasmuch as you're falling victim to the "peak indifference" trap - where it's easy to ignore the problems with something that works well but fails badly, until those failures mount to a point where you can't ignore them anymore.

We know a lot of indies are really feeling this just now, a bruising start the year. REMINDER: Money spent with local biz stays local & has a far greater impact than through chains or online- Especially with ethically minded indies, #SocialEnterprise & co-ops. We need you! 1/🧵

The Obama administration's most consequential decision was to address the Great Financial Crisis by bailing out the finance sector, rather than borrowers. 1/

I have an exhibition on next week! Opening Tuesday 8th Feb 7-9 pm and then open daily until 13th February. The work is all from the last few years where I’ve been working with themes of economic justice and the potential for change. More info at loudavis.co.uk

14 year ago, the world's financial system came to the brink of collapse. Central banks scrambled to react. Businesses shuttered. People lost their homes. Many governments fell. Faith in our institutions shattered. The Occupy movement was launched. So was Bitcoin. 1/

As bombs fell on Ukraine’s towns and cities in the first week of the invasion, the Ukrainian government still made a scheduled interest payment to its private lenders on time. Its lenders — IMF, World Bank, banks, and hedge funds—are all queuing up to collect their debts. 🧵

The idea of selling indulgences - the right to sin, for a price - has been controversial for the past 500+ years, since Jan Hus's condemnation of the practice. And yet here we are, in the age of #CarbonOffsets, where forgiveneess for torching the planet is for sale. 1/

Painted on a very hot day when the paint was drying so fast that I didn’t get nice smooth blends, but I’m still very happy with the result. Finished with 23 carat gold leaf. Inspiration came from drawing traditional Celtic knots.
