As a political theory professor, my job is to teach students about the nature of the paper bag we're trapped in, the history of how we came to be trapped there, and a few ideas that might facilitate our collective escape. That's the gig, and I love it.

"Sometimes, what qualifies you to do a certain research project is that you were the one who was curious enough to ask the question." I said this to my LGBTQ Politics students today and wanted to remember it. Every now and then, I actually impart some wisdom!

Pledging to stop Haitian immigrants from kidnapping and eating the cats of Springfield, Ohio is JD Vance's way of trying to mend fences with the childless cat lady demographic.

A student referenced the story of Abraham and Isaac in a class discussion about the Oresteia today. Several students didn't know it, so I just sang the first verse of Dylan's Highway 61 for them. Professor achievement unlocked.

I guess no one told Donald Trump that men who cross her usually end up the subject of songs that will be downloaded and played by millions. He won't be able to escape the sound of her voice singing about what a POS he is. His grandchildren will have her on repeat.

Ideologues with Ivy League credentials and billionaire patrons have the luxury of hating immigrants and queer people more than they hate high prices. Can you imagine saying, "I'd rather make my constituents materially worse off than see certain people treated fairly & decently"?
