The oldest of the brass "nails" on Corn Street dates back to the late Elizabethan age. They were installed for merchants to do business on whilst offering neither the perception of having the upper hand in their dealings - whilst ensuring it was out in the open and in public.

This statue of a cloaked figure on a horse was installed in 1984. The man stares at the part of the medieval wall where once stood St Bartholomew's Hospital was founded in 1220 as a free hospital. The figure represents a traveller who has come to Bristol to receive treatment

Two years ago I was in Paris making a programme about Marie Antoinette. These items, which didn't make the final cut but which tickled my fancy greatly, were on display at the Conciergerie prison at the time. They're supposedly MARIE ANTOINETTE'S KNITTING NEEDLES.

📍 The West Front, Exeter Cathedral The West Front Image Screen was added to Exeter Cathedral in around 1340 and marked the completion of rebuilding the Cathedral in the Gothic style. Work on the screen was continued and the additional top tier was completed in around 1740.
