The problem is not the children. The problem is never the children. The problem is us, the grown-ups. We project our frustrations. We get overwhelmed. We opt for denial. We forget to be curious. We get tired. The solutions start with us. Not children.

The Story That Trauma Tells. If we infused trauma informed / responsive approaches into our education systems, this would help us understand the stress response system to help our young people deactivate these defensive manoeuvres that ensure their survival.🧠🌱

Looking through a lens and understanding,what is happening to the biology of these stressed young people . Children are becoming more distressed and in greater need of relationships, reassurance, and co-regulation.🧠🌱

Unresolved childhood trauma can manifest as: Hypervigilance. Trust issues. Unhealthy coping mechanisms. Poor discipline. etc. It doesn't just announce itself as unresolved trauma. We need to get curious about the behaviour & then we may hear a different story🧠🌱

One for us all in social care here. Language so dehumanising and othering that those outside of social care literally laugh at it.

Shout out to all the young people trying to break the cycle of generational trauma & healing themselves.Also,to all the adults working with them,who never give up on them & provide safe,non judgmental environments to provide healing.We must never give up on our young people🧠🌱

If you grow up in an environment with no community, no culture, no opportunities, you will be a lot more susceptible & attracted to a sub-culture. For me that sub-culture was drugs. It's 2024 & history is repeating itself. Many people feel punched down with nothing to aspire to.
