One takeaway from the @RTE_France's winter electricity outlook published today: France is counting on importing electricity through Oct-Feb from European neighbors, including the UK. But the UK power grid is also counting on importing electricity from France this winter.

Gavin Newsom has signed AB 2097: all parking requirements for new housing are now eliminated within a half-mile of train, ferry and bus-rapid stations and major bus stops in California. The biggest parking reform law in the country.

"As analyst Michael Liebreich told the hundreds of attendees at the opening of the World Hydrogen Congress in Rotterdam yesterday, it was a brave choice for the organisers to ask him to be the keynote speaker." It was, and I truly salute them for doing so! hydrogeninsight.com/analysis/liebr…

Lyn Alden That increase in price only works out at about 6-7 US cents per Watt, and module prices have actually been flattish this year. We use a lot less silicon per W than we did in 2012. Also silicon's going back down as hundreds of GW/year of supply comes online.

Heard a new term today: "merchant nose" for the cashflows from some new solar projects in France (also Spain, Portugal) which will receive the merchant power price for an initial period (eg 18 months) before it drops into an auction contract price. This incentivises build *now*.

🧵I wrote something for Bloomberg Green about a massive climate finance challenge: a new interest rate paradigm. From 2004-2021, $4.4 trillion of clean energy was asset financed. $3.6T of that was in near-zero interest rate environment. That no longer holds. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

The results from BloombergNEF's 2022 lithium-ion battery price survey are out. In 2022, observed pack prices increased for the first time to an average of $151/kWh. This is a 7% increase from last year in real terms, the first one since we've been tracking the market in 2010.⬇️

Hey Iberia_en. 2 hours on the phone to book a seat for our 16month old. We've been charged the lap infant + full seat price so more expensive for him to fly than an adult. Either absolute incompetence from staff or shocking policies that discourage flying with a child. Or both!
