This is a question that I frequently get from students. I start by labeling: Graduate school is as much about making discoveries in science, as it is a process of discovery about self. Discovery of your working patterns, interests, etc. I advice being purposeful in both. How? 1/

Mesmerizing cortical activity - we saw this earlier today (i.e. we have no clue yet what it is - aside from "probably a seizure"): youtu.be/oXI5xI7tw6w

1/n We've posted a new study led by @sarahmelzer86 in collaboration with @LinTianLab. Bombesin-like peptide recruits disinhibitory cortical circuits and enhances fear memories biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Extremely comprehensive work, with lots of parallel with our recent work. Just highlights how much fine topography there is in these small nuclei, and how we should try to target the relevant functional zone when doing behavior.

I am retweeting now because it links to the explanation of the findings in the just-published nature.com/articles/s4158… Thirteen months later, with lots of rewrites and a few new experiments, the conclusions are the same so please read below.

Hello calcium imaging twitter, I have a thread for you. We made a self-supervised network that is great at ROI classification and tracking over sessions. If you do calcium imaging, it'll probably save you time. Help me improve it. Send your ROI masks to: [email protected]

This is something we are very excited about. Bart Lodder led this development project collaborating with Lin Tian, PhD lab. The technology makes lifetime photometry easy and, with the new dopamine sensor, allows measurements of phasic and tonic DA in vivo biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
