Thrilled to find a Chequered Skipper on Mull within an hour of landing there along one of our favourite walks for butterfly spotting on the island near Fishnish. Also a Small Heath and a few flighty Common Blue and a single Fritillary species.

Waited for the sun to come out this afternoon and went back to the Fishnish Walk. Found Two Small Pearl Bordered Fritillaries in the vicinity of where we saw one flying yesterday. One also later in the day at Duart but no sign of any Marsh Fritillaries at Lochdon in the wind.

Found some lichen on a log and used obsidentify to identify it. What an amazing name - Star Tipped Reindeer lichen. Also came across a very small Common Toad.

Had a lovely day on Iona yesterday after the rain stopped and the sun came out but shame about the strong wind. Did manage to hear a few corncrake but most birds were keeping well down. Did manage a Sedge Warbler near the Abbey garden and a few Wheatear.

Not much sun today so search for butterflies was put on hold (until next year probably given the weather now 🙄). Keeled Skimmer, Palmate Newts and a Beautiful Demoiselle .

For the first time since 2021, no Tawny Owl chicks were found in 25 nest boxes monitored by Sussex Barn Owl Group.☹️🦉 A worrying sign, possibly tied to prey shortages. This is being investigated with other groups. Full article here; tinyurl.com/44pakkhk
