Our Director Dr. Peggy Brunache opened our first 'unconference' today by highlighting the commitment of the centre to challenging racism and legacies of slavery & told the story of Beniba, the enslaved woman for whom our centre is named. We remember Beniba at each event.
This afternoon, Dr Linsey McMillan (Edinburgh) on the history of disability and illness and the lives of enslaved people in early 19th century Caribbean. Documentation is difficult to read, and people are almost impossible to trace beyond limited information in their complaints.
After months of planning, can't wait to meet the teachers we're working with at the 'Teaching Slavery in Scotland' weekend.
