A new orchid for us today. I think it’s Sombre Bee Orchid (Orphrys fusca). Anyone able to confirm? Usually Woodcock (O.scolopax) are the usual ones we get.

This was/is a ‘controlled’ burn. The amount of nests it has likely destroyed, reptiles toasted, and a town full of smoke. Incredible. In the midst of Spring.

And none of this is a betrayal of farming… it’s farming better We’ve done all this whilst working on a brilliant (forgive me the pride) herd of cows and a pretty damn good flock of sheep that have done great in that period

Worryingly the Red backed shrikes are late arriving but hopefully imminent. A quite welcome compensation is a couple of calling Wrynecks for the past couple of days. Hope they stick around!

Heading off for a week but luckily there was a calling Red backed Shrike this morning! Dodged my camera though.

Mediterranean surprise. We just had this, which I think is a Mobula ray, come right by us. Close to shore. Is this normal? We had seen some Common stingray earlier on.

Back home after a week away and this was what greeted me on the evening rounds. Perfect welcome back present!
