☀️Summer meltwater lakes💦 atop Greenland glaciers can drain down cracks in the ice and trigger changes in the speed that glaciers flow months or even years later, say researchers in a #AGUpubs paper. Read the #openaccess paper: fal.cn/3xMoT

Want to learn about subglacial hydrology with a splendid team in spectacular Greenland? We're seeking a PDRA with expertise in glaciology and/or engineering. Contact me or Stephen Livingstone for more info.

After many hours working underground EastGRIP Camp, it was fun to do some #cryoegg experiments on the surface (though poor Mike Prior-Jones has to keep an eye on the data screen)

We can watch how the Greenland ice sheet is lifted by the pooling of subglacial water using InSAR. Pooled water propagates like a water-snake along NEGIS in episodic splurges. Check out our new paper in GRL: J K Andersen et al. 2023 : agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20…

🚨 Our new paper on the global variability of fallout radionuclides (FRNs) in cryoconite on glaciers is just out! This one has been a long time in the making, but it was a real pleasure to work with a large group of excellent international collaborators. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Back on the hellsite for a moment to say: I'm seeking PhD applicants for two funded projects in sunny Bristol and beyond: one on sensor networks and flood management (noc.ac.uk/gsnocs/project…) and one on engineering glacier sensors (link tbc). Please spread the word!

Returning to the hellsite to share my shock and grief at the loss of a dedicated, passionate and tireless campaigner for river health. Kris was amazing, I'm so very sorry.
