My latest: a partial catalogue of the laws the Trump Administration is breaking with its fiscal and regulatory actions. I will have another paper shortly on the (also) numerous laws it is breaking with its personnel actions. cbpp.org/research/feder…

Just to underscore this point: we're talking about taking food away from kids in low-income families to pay for tax cuts for wealthy estates that have never paid - and never will pay - income tax on most of their value.

My latest on how the pending budget bill likely will make food assistance completely unavailable in some states, resulting in a massive resurgence of hunger and making SNAP politically unsustainable nationally. thehill.com/opinion/financ…

The Freedom Caucus is mad that 800,000 kids would be at risk of having their food benefits cut dramatically under the Senate-passed bill's unprecedented expansion of SNAP's harsh & ineffective work requirement to parents. They're mad because they think that number is *too low.*

I was pretty chuffed by this callout in The Economist. But Betsey was less sure, suggesting that perhaps the roles of full-time economics professor and amateur comedian ought to be separate. In any other era, I might agree. But today, they're closely tied. economist.com/culture/2025/0…

The tradeoff at the heart of the flawed GOP megabill: cutting programs that help people afford groceries and health care in order to cut taxes for households making over $500k.

The Administration has undermined the bipartisan 2025 funding deal by withholding funds, using a partisan rescission bill to cancel funding agreed to on a bipartisan basis, and *remarkably* claiming unilateral authority to hold funds & allow them to expire.
