We should talk about money and value, and what Wes Streeting and Department of Health and Social Care value and spend money on. Last week, the The Leng review found that PAs (medically unqualified assistants to doctors, with no unique skillset) function at a level below F1 (newly qualified) doctors 1/

It isn’t that doctors are greedy, it’s that Streeting is upset they’re not fools. Just like the fools he expects the UK public to be when he stokes anger against doctors while misspending taxpayer money on roles with limited value 8/

Can you imagine how unbelievably painful this must be as a parent?? Being forced to feed your starving children salt water as their only meal?! Save Mosab & his family šŸ’”šŸ’” To all who enabled this cruelty - we see you. You are monsters and the world will NEVER forgive!

Now we know why Wes Streeting refuses to negotiate with NHS staff. He wants the strikes to go ahead, so he can blame doctors and nurses for his failure.

Negotiations have failed, Streeting is too full of testosterone. Time to bring in a White Knight… someone trusted, neutral and serious. ACAS? Possibly. Or maybe a senior figure with clinical credibility. Mediation doesn’t mean weakness. myemail.constantcontact.com/Five-steps.htm…

This is why Resident doctors in England are taking a stand against the Government - it’s time to pay us what we're worth. Support us on the picket lines šŸ“¢ 25 to 30 July #PayRestoration #DoctorsStrike bma.org.uk/residentspay

It appears both Jim Mackey & Wes Streeting are threatening Resident Doctors with ā€˜detriment’ as a result of a legal strike They need to check the law More importantly negotiate a better pay deal with commitment to pay restoration or if they are unable, ask ACAS Wes Streeting

Doctors are there in our most critical moments. They care. They heal. They don’t strike lightly. Junior doctors are asking for just Ā£4 more an hour — many carry Ā£100k+ in debt. The govt must negotiate in good faith with The BMA. Solidarity with striking doctors. #DoctorsStrike

Due to requests from the pseudo-economists, I have analysed including the PA undergraduate course (ignoring that many drs also do intercalated degrees). Now it ONLY takes 16 years before a doctor will have earnt more than a PA

As we know, UMAPS is now planning to sue Streeting and ?Leng over the review’s impact. In conclusion, the review found that due to PAs’ limited and non-medical education/training, there had to be changes to their work to protect patients, and this made their union very angry 1/

The fact that Wes Streeting is willing to drag out strikes over a measley £23/hr is going to be his undoing That is an absolute bargain for a Doctor and he knows it He can negotiate ~6% above inflation until FPR, and still claim this as a significant win Time's ticking though

Permission granted šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„ Alongside the recommendations in the Leng review it's hard to see how the GMC will come out of this without egg on their face. It's clear that patient safety nor objectives as a regulator have been driving their decisions. It's been politics.

Philip Banfield šŸ’™ (@drphilbanfield) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This has always been about safety - for patients, the public & staff. No other safety critical industry, with catastrophe possible so frequently - and mostly avoided - has regulators with such scant disregard for the experts - doctors - we depend on for that safety.

1/ Hi Wes Streeting Underemployed, experienced GP here šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ Stop telling porkie-pies… there may have been a record number of appointments WITHIN GP surgeries but NOT WITH GPs! Qualified GPs are being systematically squeezed out of the 1° care workforce, as you well know.
