Our final pigeon pick from 2023 comes from EIC Alisson “sigh” Wood: 'With beautiful language and careful insight, “Smorgasbord” by Molly Tolsky hits hard at the delicate crosshairs of living in a woman’s body and (gasp!) wanting things.' (🎨: Haley Hasler)

I recently talked to author Alisson Wood (Alisson “sigh” Wood) about teaching, book bans, and her stunning memoir Being Lolita. I’m thrilled to share our conversation—it’s a must-read for teachers, librarians, or anyone who cares about what young people are reading.

Unboxing day for ✨ DISAPPEARING ACT✨ and I’m all out of words. The physical fact of this beautiful book wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful people of FSG BYR and especially Mallory Grigg. Genius! It’s out 8/15! us.macmillan.com/books/97803743…

TW rape
I'll never forget the backlash to this from men online adamant that this had nothing to do with rape. ENRAGED at the suggestion it was a metaphor. In hindsight, it reminds me how angry men get when women confront them with the horrors of rape & suggest they should care.

2020: 'Curse You All Men' corset. Inspired by the aesthetics of Black Metal, and my attempt to subvert a genre that is famously hostile towards anyone that doesn't fit the mould of 'cis-het white man'. Spike placement is deliberate, to prevent unwanted touching to the wearer.
