It's a busy day in the lab today! Visiting researchers & students are preparing collagen samples for carbon & nitrogen, dissolving rocks looking for micrometeorites, & drilling teeth for Sr analysis 🦴🦷🔥☄️🪨

This week Lisa Krämer Ruggiu and Dr. Jean-Guillaume are in Paris representing AMGC's micrometeorite and impact crater studies at the Earth and Planets Origin and Evolution (EPOE) Workshop 2024 ☄️🌏🪐

We are happy to end this week with a daytrip to the Ardennes! During the excursion, our team extracted tens of kilos of limestone in hope of recovering ancient fossil micrometeorites. Their abundance will provide important information on the past flux extraterrestrial "dust"!

What was the flux of extraterrestrial dust during the Ordovician? To answer this, Lisa Krämer Ruggiu and Steven Goderis have been sieving through “residue” left behind from dissolving Ordovician limestone in acid. Indeed, although the limestone dissolves, micrometeorites do not! 😃

These past two weeks have included quite a bit of work with the SEM! Today various members, including Julius and Lisa (below), have been imaging polished sections of their cosmic spherule finds! ☄️😃

We are grateful to Lisa Krämer Ruggiu for having represented the FLUX team at this year’s Asteroid Day ☄! 🌍☄️

The team is happy to be presenting at Goldschmidt2025! On Tuesday, Clara, Deepak, Jannes and Julius presented posters on their analysis of various new micrometeorite collections, plus some interesting new cosmochemical data! ☄️

In addition to the poster presentations, Fien, Lisa Krämer Ruggiu, Samuele and Trygve Prestgard presented their talks today on modern and fossil micrometeorites, as well as tektites! We are all grateful to have had the opportunity to present at Goldschmidt2025! ☄️

In addition to presenting, Lisa Krämer Ruggiu and Trygve Prestgard were the convener and a chair (respectively) of ''The Origin and Evolution of Asteroids and Comets: Interplanetary Dust particles, Micrometeorites, and primitive materials'' morning subsession Goldschmidt2025! ☄️
