I know I'm a broken record on this topic, but I really can't stress enough how amazing LLMs are for learning. It used to be that, when reading a complicated paper/book, I had to either spend a lot of time figuring out the trickiest parts or just give up on fully understanding it

#nanobanana Successes & Fails. We're not quite there yet. But it's definitely promising, and I'm confident we will get there. The practice of programming is just getting easier, and easier, and easier, and I am 100% excited for it. I love it. I don't do it for the paycheck.

I'm eager to see Harvey (1950) with Susie. I've seen it a few times before, mostly with my dad, who loved the movie. It's about a man who is close with a 6'3 1/2" tall invisible rabbit.

If we used breeder reactors, we would have enough energy to scrub back the CO2 we've put in the atmosphere, and we'd have enough energy for like, everything, for thousands of years.

#australia #socialmedia #ban bbc.com/news/articles/… Australia is banning social media for 16 and under. I think that this is a really important social experiment. We need to understand what the outcomes are, in order to understand whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

The Unit Environment allows one to interact with an app and debug its internals in the same place and at the same time — every project can have its own custom developer experience.

Reading this post snapped my mind into sudden recognition of -- WHEN we are, -- at the social/cultural/institutional level. We're in the 1960's. The energy has moved ever so slightly from San Fransisco, to Silicon Valley.

I'm 98% convinced that the high cost of housing is completely a product of our minds, and we could make housing profoundly cheap if we wanted to. We just don't want to. Watch everyone run like chickens with their heads cut off, when the price of housing goes down even a little.

I don't think Bill Gates' values changed; I think his control theory changed. Old: "Gov's coordinate, markets follow, emissions↓, suffering↓." New: "Prices fall, deployment explodes, suffering↓." Cost beats conscience, execution beats governance. geekwire.com/2025/bill-gate…

Why so many schools started telling kids to guess at words instead of sounding them out: In the 1960's a woman in New Zealand named Marie Clay thought that good readers read by guessing at whole words from context (the words around them, the letter they start with, or any

I am now thinking that — a Visionary Society is, ultimately — a communication. Rather than a State, it is a Message. Not that people can’t build stable institutions, in a visionary society even. But that primarily, what these things are, is messages.

I've been talking with Chat-GPT about latent spaces, VAEs, UNets, image tech, -- and Chat's convinced me that within 6-18 months, there are going to be no more body inconsistencies in generated images. The model will be like a simulation, and the latent like a moment within it.

Man and woman aren't "roles" -- they're deep structural tensions. If they were "roles," we could just perform new roles, like in a play. But they aren't. They're deep structural tensions, and we can't just rejigger everything into a new stable state. Pts of choice are ltd.

#visionarysocieties Godspeed to Patri. Creating new societies is difficult, no matter what resources surround you. I think in many ways, it's easier, the less money you have. But always hard. ft.com/content/b127ee…

I'm experimenting with using JSON to specify programs to Chat-GPT, and I'm having promising preliminary results. I am kind of... "Fairy coding" with JSON, and Chat seems to be able to take my hand-waves and construction actual functioning code from it. Will report back later.
