A7: I am glad I read this book as it reminded me of some of the challenges are students face. It's easy to forget this when we get caught up in the craziness of a school day. I also know that I grew up in a pretty sheltered. Small farming town, zero diversity. #LCSbookclub

We are studying decomposers this week and setup mold terrariums today. Students picked a variable to test to see what will speed up or slow down mold growth. We are testing salt, sugar, saliva, temperature, and amount of light to name a few! Berry Principals @MrsMartin_BIS

A2: Mahmoud story hit on both visibility and invisibility. For the most part he wanted to stay invisible to keep himself and his family out of danger, but at a point in the story he realized that becoming visible might help his family and be his key to survival. #LCSbookclub

A3: I feel like the word tomorrow was a bit of motivation to keep going and to keep a glimmer of hope. However, I'm sure there was a lot of doubt/dread deep down for each of them as this became repetitive. Especially as Josef's family sat in the port in Cuba...#LCSbookclub

A4: They each had to make SO many "adult" decisions. Isabel selling her trumpet to get gas, Mahmoud walking past the guards, Josef choosing for his sister to live. Such sad positions for kids to be put in, I can't even imagine. #LCSbookclub

A5: Accceptance, safety, and will they still be able to keep their cultural identities in their new locations. #LCSbookclub

A7: I don't often give much thought to how people got here. Their journey may be remarkable, but we are often unaware. #LCSbookclub

Happy Earth Day! Iโ€™ve enjoyed seeing all the activities my students chose to complete today. Gardening, nature walks, sidewalk messages, posters, and making marble runs out of recycled materials to name a few. ๐ŸŒŽ Berry Principals @MrsMartin_BIS Lebanon City Schools
