Liberty's extraordinary shop on Great Marlborough Street in London was constructed between 1922 and 1924. The store was built of timber from two ships, 'HMS Hindustan’ and ‘HMS Impregnable’. Both were broken up during the Admiralty’s post-war economy drive.

'Searchlights.' (1916) Christopher Nevinson's picture depicts a searchlight battery in the Euston area of London during a WW1 air-raid. This is one of a group of pictures Nevinson painted of searchlights, a subject which appealed to his celebration of the modern.

Photographed in colour 114 years ago, I've spruced-up this autochrome plate of a Christmas Tree in 1911, decorated with all the flags of the world (some of which, you may notice, no longer exist) It is original colour, not colourised.
