Following an increase in the number of egg losses to Carrion Crow last season, we have expanded the use of protective Ringed Plover scrape cages. #shorebirds ⁦Natural England NE⁩ ⁦LIFE WADER⁩

There’s been a worrying increase in off-road driving on the NNR with motorbikes on the sands and dune system. Common Butterwort is a carnivorous plant that is perfectly adapted to the nutrient poor humid dune slacks. This habitat is easily destroyed by off-road driving.⁦

Ringed Plovers are continuing to hatch across the #NNR. The Shorebird Protection Area at Goswick Sands will be extended to the foreshore this week to provide additional protection for the newly hatched chicks.⁦Natural England NE⁩ ⁦LIFE WADER⁩

The strong winds over the last few days has battered the Shorebird Protection Areas. We installed a series of chick shelters to offer additional protection but this Ringed Plover parent is doing a sterling job of sheltering its chick. ⁦LIFE WADER⁩ ⁦Natural England NE⁩

We received a call this morning from a member of the public alerting us to a dog attack on a seabird at Budle Bay. This important part of Lindisfarne NNR is internationally important for a range of birds but unfortunately some dog owners persist in letting dogs run wild.
