Several years ago, I read #BlackBoy, by #RichardWright—a brilliant African American writer. Wright documents his impoverished childhood, experiencing daily fear, racism as well as his own family’s inability to understand him. It helped inform research for my book, #Redlined.

I'm thrilled to announce that my story of my family archives is part of this great collection of stories, "Storied Stuff." Alex Kotlowitz ("There Are No Children Here") wrote: 'Storied Stuff' is a reminder to hold close not only to objects but also to the people we love." Amazon

#ThrowbackThursday A 1952 or early ’53 photo of my brother, Paul, and me. Paul is with his favorite clown doll he called “Baby Gonk.” I’m with my favorite doll, Betsy. This was shortly after Paul and I no longer had to sleep in the dining room and finally had a bedroom.

I wonder if Musk has considered supporting Harvard after Trump's cuts of a total of about $2.65 billion in federal funding and grants. That's a pittance of Musk's $420 billion dollars of worth. That would be a clever parry.

#ThrowbackThursday Summer 1959: our family at the Alamo, San Antonio, Texas. My dad loved to teach us kids about history and the wider world. In the summer of 1959 we took a five-week vacation to the south and western U.S. The trip is burned in my memory for all I learned.

#ThrowbackThursday My best friend’s (Peggy) birthday at Luther North. We girls collected money from other students, bought a gift for our friend, and decorated their locker with a Happy Birthday poster everyone would sign. I got Peggy a mohair sweater (all the rage) and a skirt

'13th' by Ava DuVernay is a must watch documentary that is sure to leave you moved. It tells the story of American prisons that are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. An essential watch in understanding racial profiling and inequality in the United States.

Had a great time last night at the Evanston Public Library, where I, along with eight other writers, read about a treasured item in our possession. I talked about two late 1800s photos of my great-grandfather and great-grandmother. Read about the event: evanstonroundtable.com/2025/07/01/sto…

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system. I am not fearful — I am fearless. We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights.
