as global temperatures rise, tucson AZ should become a “night city” where the hours for everything are reversed, saving energy and increasing tourism. there could be a “night mayor” who rules the shadows in his cape and does battle with his enemy—and identical twin—the day mayor

Might be worth a look if you’re unaccustomed to prevocalic ɱ (e.g., Païta-Drubea [ɱãã] ‘part of palm’; Tenyidie [ɱə̂] ‘refuse’; South Teke [ɱíì] ‘eyes’) or to “crazy rules” like this:

Happy May Day! I translated parts of a speech by Socialist presidential candidate (and Hoosier!) Eugene V. Debs into Latin. This was a valuable project for really digging into Debs’ language. I was also struck at how flawlessly ciceronian much of what he said was! 🔗 ⬇️

Oscan word of the day: Múíníkúm ("held in common, communal", here in the neuter nominative singular). Since this book, on Oscan (and Umbrian), is in fact held in common, in the sense of being owned by the Institute library.

Since the new pope is a native English speaker, "habemus papam" must now be pronounced /hǝbiːmǝs peɪpǝm/ to properly honor our diachronic heritage. We had a whole vowel shift for this, and a great one it was too.
