Today’s musings: 1. Can one still buy ‘loose butter’ or is it always pre-packed? 2. When the Pope abolished Limbo what happened to all the unbaptised babies’ souls? 3. Why are ‘bell-bottoms’ now called ‘flares’? 4. Are accents, dialects and languages distinct or on a spectrum?

Musings: 1. Why do some cars now have rear lights that span across the whole width of the car? It really irritates (me). 2. In film and TV, why are the coffee cups carried by characters so obviously empty? Same applies to suitcases 🙄

Sound quality on my phone is not great but this was a pretty good band having to compete with rugby league on the big screen next to them. #OnlyInAustralia Interesting to see the electric tenor guitar - it had a nice tone to it.

I have 1,000 ‘followers’. My posts seem to get a couple of dozen views. one or two likes and no comments. So most people don’t see them and for the few that do, it’s not worth a ‘like’. Now that’s fine (I’m not bovvered) but in Twitter days there were many more interactions. 😢

Saw A Complete Unknown today. Chalamet (Dylan) and Barbaro (Baez) excellent, their singing and playing carried the film. The story was compressed to fit a movie so a little disjointed, some characters were not properly introduced. It would make a great TV series. Thoughts anyone?

This is an observation not a generalisation or criticism: In #Australia more conversations are held in loud voices in public than typically in the UK. Frequently they are about private matters such as health, money and family issues. I sometimes find myself quite engaged 🙄

The post second world war settlement - laws and institutions that constrain rogue states and remove barriers to trade - has disproportionately benefited the rich countries of the west, Japan and China. But it underpinned the most sustained period of peace and rising

A diversion for me when travelling is to download and listen to past editions of Desert Island Discs from #BBCSounds. Today I listened to the Ebony Rainford-Brent edition. Former cricketer and now commentator she was eloquent and moving about her life and career. I loved it.

Last night in Australia (for 2025 anyway) so here’s an upside down Orion from my walk back to the flat (as taken by my unfiltered iPhone X). I know it’s not spectacular 🙄
