Given the sad news about Andrew Stunell, one of the warmest, kindest people I have ever met, I wanted to share some memories.
He was the kind of person you want on your team. Hard working, honest and kind.
He helped me work out what it was to make a difference in public life.

It's good to see coverage of this vital issue - the number of children living in temporary accommodation in our member councils' areas has almost doubled since Dec 2021. More families are living in temporary accommodation for longer with fewer affordable homes to rent.

Yesterday, I attended an event organised by Crisis to discuss homelessness. Rates of homelessness have risen to record levels and the number of families and individuals stuck in temporary accommodation in England has almost doubled in the last 10 years.

Shocked & heart broken re Andrew Stunell. Indefatigable titan of a campaigner. First political spark Ugandan Asians, last Rwanda. Rare Minister who increased council housing. Loved his avuncular teasing always! Aged 80 camped to volunteer S&F by-election. Total legend.

I’m so sad to hear of Andrew Stunell’s death: MP, peer, councillor, minister… he was the activists’ activist. I owe so much to his mentoring up to and after we won Westmorland. A funny, wise, humble, gentle, selfless man with crazy hair. Sending love to Gillian and their family.

This is so, so sad. Andrew was a quiet giant in the Liberal Democrats family. Always thoughtful, always kind, and a staunch believer in the power of local government. A liberal through and through, we’ll miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends, family and colleagues.
