Our team met with RI Energy this morning to address the impact of last night’s storm and their response. We made it clear that the communications and systems issues — including the outage map failure — are unacceptable.

We’ve asked them to conduct a full review of their systems ahead of any future storms. Approximately 20,000 customers remain without power and over 100 additional crews have been mobilized to support restoration efforts.

Earlier today, I was in Cranston with Mayor Hopkins to assess storm damage firsthand and hear from those on the ground. Our team at RI Emergency Management Agency remains activated and is working closely with local emergency managers to keep them informed and help ensure public safety.

Yesterday’s #ColombianAmerican Cultural Society Parade and Festival in #CentralFalls was a wonderful gathering filled with music, good food, and community.

This weekend I attended the Wickford Art Fest in #Wickford. This two-day arts fest at Wilson Park was an amazing showing of #RhodeIsland's creative spirit. It was a thrill to spend time with so many artistic and creative people.

This is a tragedy and my heart goes out to the victims and families just over the border. We need to make sure we're taking proactive steps to protect our own care facilities. At our next LTCCC meeting, I'll be asking RI's long-term care facilities to share their emergency plans.
