Giving a talk at #AMLaP2023 on the production planning of allomorphs! This is a continuation of my previous work (presented at HSP2023) but through the lens of a different dataset/experimental task. Excited to share it with you all!🚴 Aug 31 (Thu) 14:20-14:40 // Session 3

Asked on the other app already, but does anyone know of other hand-aligned speech corpora at the phone level, like Buckeye? Ideally looking for French, German, or Spanish, but any corpus recommendation is still welcome!

In our new paper out today at Trends in Cognitive Sciences , @leylaisi and I argue that social interaction perception is a visual process--computed by the visual system and distinct from higher-level cognitive processes. tinyurl.com/nhh2dhxt

So exciting to see a paper reviewing recent psycholinguistic experiments on Philippine Languages. 🧠 Written by two of my good friends—Jed Sam Pizarro-Guevarra (UMass) and Rowena Garcia (Potsdam/MPI-Psycholinguistics). annualreviews.org/doi/abs/10.114…

🥳NEW PAPER🥳 ChatGPT's language skills are impressive, but can it pass this simple test from 1958? In our #EMNLP2023 paper, Valentin Hofmann @ COLM 2025 and I evaluate ChatGPT's ability for morphological generalization on a novel set of made-up "wug words" in four languages. 🧵(1/4)

Honored my paper with Philip Resnik was accepted to Findings of #EMNLP2023! Many psycholinguistics studies use LLMs to estimate the probability of words in context. But LLMs process statistically derived subword tokens, while human processing does not. Does the disconnect matter? 🧵

My amazing RA Sofia just won an award based on our work!! So excited to explore morphophonology and speech production with her for the coming year(s) 🥳

As part of my PhD viva, I’m so excited to present to you a symposium that discusses what Tagalog can teach us about psycholinguistics and formal linguistics. If you are interested in morphological processing, sentence processing, and causation, SAVE THE DATE AND REGISTER BELOW ⬇️

Excited to present some ongoing work at PLC48 tomorrow (Session 3A), where we test the types of morpho-phonological generalizations RNNs may form over limited training data 🤖 Joint work w/ Kyle Rawlins and Paul Smolensky

On the train to UMass Amherst to attend AFLA 31! 🚞 Giving a talk on joint work with Gérard Avelino, rethinking the morphology and semantics of plural pronoun constructions based on novel data from Tagalog. I’m so lucky to work with such a thoughtful co-author!! 🕺

My very first MEG paper is finally accepted for publication in Cortex! 🥳 We investigate the neural profile of early (decomposition) and late stages (recombination) of visual word recognition of inflected prefixed words in Tagalog, an understudied language in neurolinguistics.🧠

📢 New paper 📢 What generalization mechanisms shape the language skills of LLMs? Prior work has claimed that LLMs learn language via rules. We revisit the question and find that superficially rule-like behavior of LLMs can be traced to underlying analogical processes. 🧵

New paper out in Psychonomic Society! Using behavioral masked priming and single word reading with concurrent Magnetoencephalography (MEG) recording, we investigate how our brain spots the tiny pieces of words (a.k.a. morphemes)—even when they’re playing hide-and-seek. 👀 Link ⬇️
