Look what I got!! Thank you NIAAA News NIH!! Also many thanks to my PI Anna Zilverstand, PhD, Co-Sponsor Damien Fair, and the University of Minnesota MD-PhD Program for their ongoing support. I will be studying the role of stress, social support, and brain function on alcohol misuse in women. 👩🏻 🍷
Excited to share my paper on subtypes in substance use disorder (SUD), in which we describe neurobehavioral profiles of 3 subtypes over 3 domains of function! My first first-author paper in Anna Zilverstand, PhD’s lab, with Leyla Brucar, Eric Rawls, and Tim Hendrickson! Briefly,🧵
Very proud to wake up as a PI of a R01 on Personalized Relapse Prediction funded by NIAAA News - would not have been possible without the hard work of my amazing grad students: Leyla Brucar Gunner Drossel Andrea M. Maxwell and support by UMN Medical Discovery Team on Addiction
Check out my presentation virtually on Friday or my in-person poster presentation on Saturday at Yale Psychiatry
Overall, we found modest evidence for a valid subgrouping solution (low modularity, subject to noise). This directs me to the great commentary in the review by Leyla Brucar et al about the need for internal and external subgroup validation. doi.org/10.1016/j.biop…
We were invited by Springer Nature Nature Portfolio to write a blog about our recent work describing subtypes within addiction! healthcommunity.nature.com/posts/a-new-ap… Our approach could be useful in conditions beyond just substance use disorders 💭 Full manuscript linked below 👇
Going to #OHBM ? Here’s a sneak peak of my results for my poster on rsfMRI-based subtyping in Alcohol Use Disorder! Come chat with me Tues & Weds at poster number 1757 to hear all the details 🧠 Anna Zilverstand, PhD OHBM UMN Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences UMN Medical Discovery Team on Addiction #OHBM2023
In our Neuropsychopharmacology hot topics article on subtyping using functional profiles, we argue that #subtypes must emerge based on three simple assumptions, for which we provide empirical evidence: rdcu.be/djq5q - with Gunner Drossel - funded by NIDAnews UMN Medical Discovery Team on Addiction UMN Medical School
New pub alert 🔔 Our paper is out in Current Addiction Reports. We review the functional neuroimaging on sex/gender differences in samples with substance misuse and their relevance to impulsivity. Check it out! UMN Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences University of Minnesota Neuroscience University of Minnesota MD-PhD Program UMN Medical Discovery Team on Addiction
T229 today at #ACNP ACNP - we found two brain-based subtypes with distinct comorbidity profiles in Alcohol Use Disorder- fantastic work by Leyla Brucar!!! UMN Medical Discovery Team on Addiction UMN Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences University of Minnesota Neuroscience
RSoA - Check out my undergrad mentee Kailey’s poster about using an automatic speech recognition algorithm to transcribe qualitative interviews about SUD & fellow grad student Gunner Drossel’s posters about cue reactivity tonight! So proud of my lab wife, Andrea M. Maxwell, and all her incredible accomplishments! If you haven’t already, read her essay which brings much needed attention to a truly important and understudied topic: What happens to the brain during pregnancy🤰
