Great to see Meg Baker and Sean Ruffell from Durham Earth Science and look at some of the cores from the deep water Congo Canyon W the National Oceanography Centre Marine Geohazards & Sedimentology Group - lots of debrites, turbidites and woody debris! Safe travels!

Just had a great Skype with Lewis Bailey who has made a massive breakthrough in his PhD project training a model to predict the timing of turbidity currents. Very exciting stuff - this has made my week!

A lot of exciting sedimentology lined up for the next 3 days at BSRG #BSRG2020 incl our own Lewis Bailey Maarten Heijnen Zaki Daniela Vendettuoli & James Hunt . I will present on a surpisingly active submarine canyon at 10:00 this am

Really enjoyed day 1 of BSRG #bsrg2020. Looking forward to kicking off day 2 with the turbidity current forecast at 8:30am. Make sure you tune in!

Thanks Dr Stacy Phillips for featuring our work with your Lego art! See you all at 13:30 for what is bound to be a great session on Hazard cascades from source 2 sink, convened by @WaterSHEDLab sanem acikalin et al.

Lewis Bailey just gave a great talk at INCISE (all the more impressive in light of tech issues) Q: Can we predict turbidity currents? A: Yes we can!* *albeit w some caveats for some system types! Where rivers & tides dominate his model performs v well.

Presenting Dr Lewis Bailey! A 2 hour PhD viva later, emerging victorious! Huge thanks to Andy Cundy and Aggie Georgiopoulou as examiners!

How and when are sediment, carbon and pollutants flushed along submarine channels to build lobes at their termini? We explore this using a decade of repeat seafloor surveys along the entirety of a submarine channel-lobe system. OA paper: reader.elsevier.com/reader/sd/pii/…

How do glacial lake outburst floods impact sea surface turbidity? I’m presenting at #AGU22 poster 1423 this afternoon. Come see me!
