In addition to proposing that Bagby Street—currently owned by the city—be renamed to honor the late Sylvester Turner, City Controller Chris Hollins (Chris Hollins) also petitioned that the City finally display Mayor Turner’s portrait alongside those of other previous mayors.

Everyone should be crystal clear about what is happening here. Trump is disobeying a unanimous ruling from the Supreme Court to help pave the way for sending U.S. citizens to an El Salvadorian gulag without due process or recourse

Very upsetting news for all Houstonians and the many talented folks at the Landing. Matt is a first-rate editor and all-around great guy who has had a hand in more Houston govt & politics coverage than anyone I can think of. Any newsroom would be lucky to have him!

HB5177’s companion bill in the TX Senate is SB2722. And as you will hear from our Legislative Affairs Director, Kristen, this Legislation will serve to defund critical infrastructure projects and maintenance in Precinct 2 and across Harris County #TXLege

Commissioner Garcia is in Austin today at the State Capitol testifying against HB 5177 — a bill that would harm Harris County. Stay tuned to our pages for a link to watch his testimony live. #txlege

Last night, Commissioner Lesley Briones testified before the Texas House Transportation Committee in opposition to #HB5177. “House Bill 5177 is a bailout—plain and simple. I empathize with the City of Houston’s challenges, and Harris County values our partnership with Houston.

This isn’t just a bill—it’s hope. HB107 passed its second reading today, and I’m standing strong for those living with Sickle Cell Disease, including my own daughter. We’re making history, one step at a time. #HB107 #SickleCellAwareness #txlege

Leaders We Deserve invested $1.2M in my race, one of the most competitive state legislative races last cycle. David Hogg 🟧 also came to San Antonio, knocked doors, launched canvasses, and helped us meet voters where they were. Facts matter and this is easily verifiable.

Last week, Commissioner Garcia & Commissioner Briones formally requested a meeting to discuss transportation funding with Houston Mayor's Office, as #txlege members requested. We value our ongoing partnership with the City because the work is too important. So far, we’ve received no response.

What does that even mean, “most of the bill does not affect the City of Houston?” It sure impacts the residents of Precinct 2 who live in the City, who will lose millions of transportation infrastructure dollars to bail out the City’s budget mess.
