Tony Annett Wasn’t Vatican II unique among councils in that nothing it did was infallible since nothing was declared an anathema? So it’s pretty much the only council where it’s not heresy to reject its teachings?
Leo Armbrust zman97 Tony Annett Dogmatic refers to the subject of the constitution, dogma, but nowhere does it solemnly define any doctrine. Pope Paul VI himself, among others, replied to the dubia asking this very question and stated that the council is pastoral in nature. Not binding to the faithful.
@luddite__jimbo zman97 Tony Annett Pope Paul Vi promulgated Lumen Gentium in November 1964. Calling the council pastoral does not diminish its Magisterial authority. These Teachings of the Church that are guarded from doctrinal error are still binding on Catholics, they are not optional.
