Sicherheitspolitik.Energiepolitik in 30 Sekunden.

We’ve been talking about it. You’ve been asking for it. We’ve been working on it. Today, we launched it: the image description reminder! It’s live to 10% of global Twitter across Android, iOS, and Web. 🧵 (1 of 6)

The real missing part for CI/CD automation is a local development experience. Sounds counter-intuitive but being able to run the E2E CI/CD pipeline locally and validate failures saves engineers from the 20 minute push, coffee, failure, fix loop.

In toxic cultures, time off is a reward earned by working to exhaustion. Burnout is proof of commitment, and vacations are required to recover. In healthy cultures, time off is a right granted to everyone. Well-being is a top priority, and vacations are encouraged to rejuvenate.

The "Industry Coefficient" of some widely used Rust crates. The coefficient is POSITIVE if a crate is disproportionately often downloaded on weekDAYS, and NEGATIVE if disproportionately often downloaded on weekENDS. 0 is the mean across all crates on crates-io.

At Spotify Engineering we’ve been experimenting with Bazel macOS remote execution over the last year. A few weeks ago we enabled it for our main iOS CI build and decreased our p95 by almost 5x with a cluster of 60 M1 machines. Very impressive stuff!

Apple’s monopoly power over apps and app distribution is back in the news this week.   Here’s why that matters, and why lawmakers at the federal and state level need to tackle Apple’s abuse. Buckle up for an App Store thread people! 1/?

Holy moly the source code leaked for Apple’s App Store user profiles for “personalized” ads: if currentDay.endsWith('y') { yourPersonalizedCategory = "Fuckin’ Casinos"; } else { yourPersonalizedCategory = "More Fuckin’ Casinos"; }

Folks will get to see my team's work through "Your Missed Hits" and "Your Artist Messages" in Wrapped 2022. I'm excited about that.

Awesome thread by Sarah Drasner 👏 … IMHO, this is the reason to document the context/reasoning of code. Not (only) what it actually does. Ofc, this works only to a certain degree and wouldn’t help when you fire the majority of the team(s) …

Please consider some of the brilliant Spotify team who are now looking for their next opportunity. Much appreciation and best wishes to my former teammates 🙏🏼 It’s been very hard to say goodbye this week. Hiring managers take note of this spreadsheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…
