In 1917, Lieutenant Leslie H. Miller, a Canadian soldier, collected acorns from the trees around Vimy Ridge where so many Canadians fought and died. He planted them on his farm in Ontario. 100 years later, acorns from the farm were planted back on Vimy ridge. #veterans #canada

On the morning of July 1st, 1916 the Battle of the Somme started. For the Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel, France, the battle was short. Of the 800 Newfoundlanders that went into battle only 68 were able to answer role call the next day. #newfoundland #Remembrance2024

It was here, Ypres, Belgium, that Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, wrote In Flanders Fields, perhaps one of the most poignant and long lasting poems about war. McCrae died of pneumonia at General Hospital in Wimereux, France. #RemeanceDay2024 #france #legion #canada #lastpost
