Research suggests managers who set aside regular time to reflect have more impact. They gain new outlooks on their teams, their cross-functional relationships & their own effectiveness. 35 questions managers should ask themselves regularly: review.firstround.com/35-impactful-q… Via Jorge Barba

Insecure arrogance: "I have all the answers. Only I can fix it." Confident humility: "I have many questions. We need to study what broke it." The people to trust are not the ones who project the most confidence. They’re the ones who know the limits of their competence.

One of my many flaws is that I love to be right. So every day, I ask myself one question: “Do I want to win, or do I want to be right?” What I mean by this is “Do I want to win (in the long game), or do I want to be right (right now)?” Sometimes success requires compromise.

It can be tough to do sometimes, especially when being authentic is in the mix. Sometimes we do need to make short term sacrifices for the greater long term gains though. We just need to ensure the win we are striving for is worth our struggles.

Our strategic thinking in health & care is mostly single-loop (what/how are we doing?) or double-loop (why/how do we do what?) We have to make time & space for triple-loop learning (rethinking our thinking). We can learn from the military: benzweibelson.medium.com/triple-loop-le… By Ben Zweibelson

What do leaders who are exceptional communicators do? 1) Use short words to talk about hard things 2) Choose powerful metaphors to reinforce key concepts 3) Humanise data by putting numbers in perspective 4) "Overcommunicate" the mission: hbr.org/2022/11/how-gr… By carminegallo

Saying "I might be wrong" is not a mark of ignorance. It reveals the absence of insecurity. Arrogance is a shield for a fragile ego. Humility is a sign of self-assurance. It takes confidence to admit uncertainty. The people who are the most sure are usually the most insecure.

A major barrier to change in health & care is the Einstellung effect. It occurs when, facing a new problem, we apply a repeated solution we have learnt from old problems, based on what we know and are comfortable with, preventing us finding a better solution. It creates a cycle
