Furious that the admin at The New School would call in cops to arrest our students, still asleep in their encampment tents early this morning, precisely when they could least avail themselves to faculty support. Now the school sits in grim company alongside Columbia, NYU, CCNY.

New School admin had indicated they wouldn't call the police, at least not without warning, and in an early morning raid, they went ahead anyway. utterly despicable

One day after faculty and staff bodies across the university joined calls for the New School to divest from 13 companies in overwhelming numbers, this is how the administration responded. At least 30 arrests so far. Of our students.

I hope everyone on here talking about 'occupying private property is wrong and the police response is warranted' realizes that they're publicly admitting they would have opposed the Civil Rights Movement

The UAW will never support the mass arrest or intimidation of those exercising their right to protest, strike, or speak out against injustice.

I will never work with Columbia affiliate on any academic project, collaboration, or research again. This is unconscionable. There should be a full academic boycott of Columbia until the board and president Minouche Shafik resign. This is a disgrace.

Super interesting to note the contrast between the way Brown University and Columbia University have handled these protests. Brown agreed to a governance vote about divestment, the encampment there dissolved.
