“If your place is not great enough to suit you, make it so. The minister who is unable to make a place great is too weak to hold a great one.” – L. R. Scarborough, “With Christ, After the Lost,” 79. #ChristianLeadership #Service
Noteworthy with the BFM25 was the inclusion of an article on “co-operation,” a first for Baptist confessions of faith and likely resulting from the influence of Southwestern Seminary 2nd president, L. R. Scarborough, who had chaired the $75M Campaign and served on the original Cooperative Program committee.
"I think it is almost true that a tearless pastor's study will have a tearless pew. If there isn't a broken heart in the pastor's study there aren't likely to be broken hearts in the pew." L. R. Scarborough #ArchivesatBHC B.H. Carroll Center
Today we begin the fall semester Southwestern Seminary & Texas Baptist College. Pres. L. R. Scarborough opened the 1928 year with-"A call to preach is a call to preach the best you can and a call to preach the best you can is a call to prepare to preach. Our seminary is in that business" #ArchivesatBHC
“The most gigantic undertaking God has laid out for Christian men is to lead lost souls to Jesus Christ. The salvation of the world cost God more, and requires more from man, than any other movement in human or divine history.” —L. R. Scarborough #PointToPonder #Evangelism
#OTD in Southwestern Seminary History in 1906, B. H. Carroll first mentions to L. R. Scarborough the development of a chair of evangelism which he calls the "Chair of Fire." This chair is currently held by our Interim Provost Matt Queen #ArchivesatSWBTS
