The problem with synthetic chemists using LLMs blindly is one of safety. Get it wrong once & your lab could burn down. Hallucinations are not compatible with chemical synthesis.

Current AI technology is nothing more than a data analysis technique. To insert a ghost into the AI machine is kinda cute but it’s just a ghost. A ghost of human reasoning. Today’s ghost in the machine is human made.

In 2012 I had a dream of universal digital chemistry for chemputation inspired by 3D printing technology. By 2016 we made a key advance. beilstein-journals.org/bjoc/articles/… We went from a vision to a universal code for organic synthesis - in this case making Ibuprofen in a hacked 3D printer.
