Think the cytoplasm is well-mixed? Think again. In my latest work with Dr. Arthur Molines 🎮 and Fred Chang we found the apparent viscosity of the cytoplasm may vary up to 100-fold (!) within individual cells, and 10-fold (!) between cells. A thread: (1/8) biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…

In synthetic biology classes, I ask students what biological function they want to create, and one popular answer is "photosynthesis in mammals". Now, it's achieved! The authors transplanted membrane-coated thylakoids into chondrocytes and mice! Congrats! nature.com/articles/s4158…

This year’s chemistry laureates Demis Hassabis and John Jumper have developed an AI model, AlphaFold2, to solve a 50-year-old problem: predicting proteins’ complex structures. Check out two examples of protein structures determined using AlphaFold2. First up, a bacterial enzyme
Molecular dynamics simulations in mixed reality! With Luciano Abriata and Lucien Krapp we’re scaling our multi-user WebXR platform to enable immersive molecular simulations, fully based on web technologies. Stay tuned, lots of cool stuff coming soon! Three.js #WebXR #Quest3
