Caves in the Foix region - first on Europes longest underground river then to see prehistoric art, topped off by a tour of the castle.

A hike to the d’Ars falls in the French Pyrenees then the dry plains to the east where wheat fields mix with vinyards.

Learning about the Carthars - the restored castle in Carcosenne and the nearby series of four cattle ruins high on a hill near Lestours.

A 8 km paddle down the Tarn River, the deep waterfall pools of water in nearby canyons and finally the Nîmes colisseum, enough room for 24000 Romans.

Back to the French Mediterranean - long sunbaked beaches. And the best fruit I’ve ever had.

Back to the arid coast of southern France.
