I’m convinced the main reason the US doesn’t feel like a wealthy country is cars - the obvious cost of owning, maintaining, storing, and building the entire world around them AND the less obvious cost to public health of car culture like obesity, lost leisure time, etc.

I'd love to know what makes us more "free" than other countries. Being unable switch jobs b/c of healthcare? Being shackled to a lifetime of debt just to get an education? Lack of vacation or family leave? None of this screams "freedom" to me. To me, it says the opposite.
