So the linguist in me got very excited this morning. Was talking to a Kazakh lady who told me that in some parts of Kazakhstan, the word for sugar is "sheker" (cognate w/ Turkish şeker/Arabic سكر?) but in other areas they say "qant" - seemingly from Farsi قند . Sweet.
