Duty solicitor rotas out: 42 fewer sols & 20 fewer firms (now 3,954 & 986. PDS excluded). To test impact of MoJ's CLAIR response (to increase funding 9%), compare from Jan 23. 146 solicitors & 47 firms have left duty schemes. MoJ implementation of CLAIR has failed its key aim.

Press release!
Thank you for the many solicitors who provided evidence to demonstrate the impact that the MOJs failure to heed the warnings of Bellamy have had on future of publicly funded criminal defence work.

The increase in the Magistrates court protocol is guidance to members and not binding , albeit a true reflection of the importance of the junior bar to our profession.

The The CBA are of course aware that this goes beyond the mere 9% increase implemented after Bellamy.

As extra late sittings are scheduled by HM Courts and Tribunals Service to accommodate protest work we would not encourage our members to volunteer their time at the expense of a work /life balance without adequate compensation being available for doing so.
